About Me!
My name is Abigail Jones, known as Abby to everyone who knows me, and I have been sculpting one of a kind (ooak) polymer clay babies since 2006. I have also had vinyl reborn kits made from some of my newborn sculpts. I live in Southampton U.K with my gorgeous husband of 12 years and my five children. I've always loved art, as a child I was constantly drawing, all my exercise books at school were highly embellished with doodles, and even now no-one in my house can leave any papers around without risking them getting scribbled on! Art was always my favourite subject at school, closely followed by English. After school I did a diploma in Art, then took A-levels in Art, English and English lit. I had just secured a place at university to study a degree in fine art when I met my husband.
That was the end of my arty days for years, I was too busy building a life with my husband and raising my children to exercise my artistic skills. My sculpting career started completely by accident, after buying a gift for my mum. She's an avid dolls house collector, and for her birthday I bought her a book about making doll house dolls, along with some polymer clay and tools. Although my mum never pursued the hobby, being the creative type myself I just had to have a go. I made a few tiny dolls, but it wasn't until I made my first one of a kind baby that I became really hooked! Now I make clay babies whenever I can, I fit it in around caring for my children, who in turn provide me with lots of inspiration. When my youngest daughter was born, as well as taking lots of photographs of her beautiful face I also took many photos of her hands, feet, the top of her head, and I constantly refer to them when I'm sculpting. Now I have a new baby, Jake, to provide me with even more inspiration! Each baby starts out as a lump of clay, and I love the process of shaping each piece into a unique and realistic doll that hopefully will be loved by whoever buys it.
I hope you love my babies as much as I do, and please be sure to check back often for new arrivals!
